We are now the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW)!

Moving forward, the NLASW will be known as the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW).   As extensively communicated throughout 2020, this change stems from legislative amendments to the Social Workers Act and was needed to 1) ensure our responsibility under the Act to operate in the public interest was clearly understood and 2) bring us in line with our provincial and national regulatory counterparts who have also undergone a similar name change.  While our name has changed, our mandate remains the same.

In the lead up the name change, we took some time to reflect on NLASW's rich history through a series of tweets which highlighted milestones and achievements that have happened along the way.  If you missed our stroll down memory lane, take some time for  'a look back' at the people and events that helped shape NLASW.

NLCSW LogoWe remain proud of our rich history, a history that spans 50 years but are excited for our future as the NLCSW.  It was with this context in mind that the NLCSW logo was developed.  Officially unveiled as part of our AGM on September 29, the NLCSW logo maintains the iconic history and recognizable mark of NLASW but underwent a refresh to symbolize the dynamic future we envision as NLCSW.  Learn more here about the meaning behind the NLCSW logo.

While you will continue to see references to NLASW for some time, staff will be working hard behind the scenes to update our resources, communication materials, online presence, etc.

We look forward to a bright future as the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers and the continued advancement of Excellence in Social Work!
