Starting the Conversation: A Review of the Ask, Advise, Refer Model for Smoking Cessation Interventions

NL Lung Association's Smokers' Helpline will be getting back to the basics and will review the key steps involved in the Ask, Advise, Refer Model. 

The evidence points to this model as a simple and effective approach to address the issue of smoking and connect patients/clients to support with quitting, and it's designed to take just a few minutes and fits into a wide variety of settings.

For those who may not be familiar with the NL Smokers' Helpline, you don't want to miss this opportunity to learn about the Helpline's well-established programs as well as some innovative tools that have been launched more recently.

For those who may already be familiar with the Helpline, this will be an informative review for further increase your confidence in the area of smoking cessation.  And there will still be plenty of new information including updates/stats about health professional involvement and client engagement.

Here's what you can expect to learn in this 45-minute session:

  • Apply the Ask, Advise, Refer model to assist patients/clients with quitting. Learn simple strategies to get the conversation started and to encourage individuals to accept the Helpline referral.
  • Discuss the Smokers' Helpline services that are available.
