Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Social Workers (NLASW) to become Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW)
The House of Assembly of Newfoundland and Labrador recently passed amendments to the Social Workers Act which will see NLASW become NLCSW, effective September 30, 2020.
For over a quarter of a century, NLASW has been committed to advancing and promoting ethical and professional social work practice in the public interest. While our name is changing, our mandate and activities in support of this mandate will remain the same, as demonstrated by our strategic plan.
The reasons behind the name change are two-fold:
- It will bring NLASW in line with our provincial and national regulatory counterparts who have moved from 'association' to 'college'.
- It ensures our responsibility under the Social Workers Act to operate in the public interest is clearly understood.
We look forward to a bright future as NLCSW and the continued advancement of Excellence in Social Work.
